Women’s physical activity and safety during winter months
We know that 46% of women change their behaviour around physical activity during the winter months. Women are also more likely to struggle to find time around caring responsibilities to maintain their physical activity schedules and therefore we’d like to see workplaces and employers recognise this and allow women to take time in the working day to be active.
While it isn’t only women who feel less able to participate in the winter months – with inadequate street lighting and other hazards, women are more likely to feel unsafe and need to find security with others, as well as needing to tell friends and family when they are expected home. We want to see recognition of this issue and more done to ensure women and girls activity levels do not suffer over this winter period.
